Location

The monastery is located on 363 acres along the Wailua River and features beautifully landscaped gardens, sacred shrines, and two temples. One of its most notable structures is the Iraivan Temple, a hand-carved white granite temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is being constructed using traditional Indian techniques and is the only temple of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The project emphasizes spiritual purity and architectural authenticity, reflecting the deep devotion of the monks and artisans involved.

Purpose

Home to a small group of resident monks, the monastery operates as a center for spiritual practice, meditation, and Hindu education. The monks follow a strict daily routine that includes worship, meditation, scriptural study, and service. They welcome visitors respectfully, offering guided tours and resources for those interested in Hindu teachings, yoga, and monastic life. The monastery also publishes numerous books and the international magazine Hinduism Today, which helps promote awareness and understanding of Hindu beliefs and practices worldwide.

More than just a religious center, the Hindu Monastery in Kauai embodies harmony between spiritual life and the natural world. Its serene environment encourages reflection, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to the divine. As a cultural and spiritual bridge between East and West, the monastery stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, discipline, and global unity through religious understanding.
